Bette Beatrice Blake Russell Arnold
Daughter of Evelyn Smith and George Francis Blake. She grew up with her grandparents, Felicia and Lewis Hampton Smith in their home on 118 West Hall St Savannah, and her grandparents, Ish and Lewis. At age 5, her mother Evelyn married William Hunter Russell and they moved to Decatur, GA where she attended Decatur Girls High and graduated from North Fulton High, later attending the University of Georgia. She married John "Johnny" Robert Arnold, Jr. on Oct.18, 1947. He graduated from Clemson University in civil engineering and worked for Robert & Co. Associates in Atlanta. She was a member of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church and a Daughter of the King. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Robert Arnold, Jr.; stepfather, William Hunter Russell; sisters, Beverly Russell Neal, Dale Russell Coggins, and Pat Blake Black; special aunt, Dottie Garmany of Savannah. Surviving are her three children, Dianne (Robert) Pilcher, Lynne (Don) Ulmer, and John Robert Arnold, III; four grandchildren, Melissa Bell, Jason (Casey) Pilcher, Natalie Ulmer, and Elizabeth Arnold; and four great grandchildren, Abigail and Austin Pilcher, and Bette and Sophie Ulmer.
