Married Julia Hodgkin and had many children with her including Jonathan Hodgkin Bartlett. Some of their children were born in Bethel before the family moved to Lowell, Massachusetts.

Artemas is listed as a farmer by the US Census. (Image of that page memorial for his wife, Julia.)

Julia Hodgkin Bartlett was buried in Lowell, Maine.
Sarah, oldest daughter of Julia & Artemas, married Central Idaho pioneer Lorenzo Falls in Lowell, MA. On their wedding night they moved to Central Idaho which had few white settlers at that time and precious metals had been discovered.

After Julia died, her widower Artemas moved from Lowell, MA to Idaho. Daughter Sarah Bartlett Falls & her family had established their ranch in the Pahsimeroi River valley in 1890. In 1897 the area incorporated. The town was named after May Patterson, wife of Rudolf Wright. In 1897 the town was incorporated as May, Idaho.

Rustic abandoned buildings of downtown May are in reasonable shape. The 2010 census listed May as an "unincorporated community" at over 5000' elevation in sparsely populated Lehmi County.

Artemas P. Bartlett died on June 7, 1896 in Lehmi County, Idaho. His obituary incorrectly lists burial in Morse, Idaho. But there never has been a "Morse, Idaho." Artemas was buried in May, Idaho as written by his granddaughter and Librarian of Congress, Hazel A. Bartlett. I have not looked for or found a grave marker. Perhaps burial is in May but outside a cemetery. Librarian Hazel would not have written that he was buried in May in her official records unless she was convinced it was true.
