Paul E. Nelson, 83, a lifelong resident of Minong, died on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 2, 1923, in Minong, to Otto and Marie (Swanson) Nelson. After graduating the eighth grade in 1939, he later joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 12, 1943, where he served as a medic and cook until his discharge on Dec. 19, 1945.
On Sept. 2, 1946, he married Dorthey Rich.
Paul was employed by the Washburn County Highway Department for over 35 years.
He is survived by his sons, Larry (Yvonne) of Minong and David of Ashland; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ester (Rev. Bob) Olson of Monona.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorthey; daughter, Evelyn (Jack) Dins; granddaughter, Mandi Nelson; seven brothers; and three sisters.
The funeral was held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Brown Funeral Home in Minong. Pastor Craig Nelson officiated.
Visitation was at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Minong.
