She married first, Cecil Jehue Pettyjohn on November 18, 1888 in Walker county Georgia. He was the son of Jacob William Bate Pettyjohn (ID: 16744678) and Sarah Ann Bankston (ID: 85134237). Mary's brother, Charles James Sweet (ID: 103542970) also married Cecil's sister, Almeda D. Pettyjohn (ID: 36403996) in 1894.
Cecil & Mary had two known children:
James W. Pettyjohn (b: Nov 1889 in Walker county, Georgia)
Sarah "Sallie" Pettyjohn (b: abt 1891 in Walker county, Georgia)
It is unknown what happened to these children after 1900 as they completely disappear from all records thereafter.
Cecil Jehue Pettyjohn died some time between 1891-1900 in Georgia. Some undocumented sources say Chattooga county, which is where his family was originally from. However, I have been unable to find any record of his death whatsoever. He completely disappears from all historical records after their marriage in 1888 (the 1890 census was destroyed by fire). Mary is listed as a widowed head of household, with her two children, living next to Cecil's brother, Joseph Abraham Pettyjohn & his family in the 1900 census.
Mary Alice Sweet Pettyjohn remarried on January 20, 1901 to widower Henry Johnson Young (1859-1942) in Walker county Georgia. They had 5 known children together. Henry's first wife was Elizabeth Jane McCain by which he had 7 known children together.
Henry Johnson Young & Mary Alice Sweet had 5 known children:
Mamie Irene Young Goss
Henry Grady Young
Cora Beatrice Young
Joseph Young
Woodrow Wilson Young
Please note, nearly all online trees & genealogical sites have incorrectly propogated that Henry Young married Mary Drucilla Sweet over the years. This is incorrect. Mary Drucilla was Mary Alice's 1st cousin. Mary Drucilla Sweet was married to Luther Steele and would have been 37 years younger than Henry Johnson Young.
Undocumented records state that Mary died in 1915 in Walker county Georgia. However, she appears with the family in the 1920 census and again with her husband in Florida in the 1930 census (listed as "Minnie" Young. The exact year of her death is unknown.
