My Father was a teamster for years and years. His name was Bolten Lee BICKEL.ALL THESE BICKELS ARE MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY. PERRY IS MY YOUNGEST BROTHER. WE HAD A BROTHER OVAL ODEN KILLED IN KOREA ON FEB.4 1951. MY 7SISTERS WERE GOLDIE BICKEL MYERS ANDERSON, SYLVIA BICKEL MYERS, ANNIE RUTH BICKEL GIBSON,
MY BROTHERS WERE JOYCE MAYNARD BICKEL , ONEY ELMER Bickel, FOREST LEROY , OVAL ODEN, PERRY RAY Perry Bickel I was the 7th child. We had a large family, but we had LOVE. WE LIVED ON A SMALL FARM , HAD COWS,PIGS SHEEP, HORSES. CHICKENS ,TURKEYS, AND MANY OTHER BIRDS. WE HAD LOTS OF DELICIOUS FOODS. WE HAD WILD BLACKBERRIES,SOME WILS STRAWBERRIES, OUR ORCHARDS HAD MANY KINDS OF APPLES GOLDEN DELICIOUS, AN EARLY APPLE. WE HAD APPLES THAT RIPENED IN SUMMER, MANY,MANY DIFFERENT KINDS THAT RIPENED IN THE LATE SUMMER AND EARLY FALL.THESE WERE GOOD FOR APPLEBUTTER, WHICH WE CANNED GALLONS OF. WE RAISED CANE AND MADE MOLLASSES, THIS REQUIRED HOURS OF STIRRING, BUT SURELY TASTED GOOD IN THE WINTER.WE HAD A BIGCELLAR, WE USED 1/2 gallon jars and worked hard canning and preserving everything we could. We were poor by the high standards, but we were friendly people that treated our neighbors as family. They treated us the same. Mom and Daddy were born in 1893 and 1894, they were loved and respected by everyone that knew them. They passed away 8 months apart. Mother in Jan Daddy on 9- of that same year. They were Christians as was all the family, especially my littlebrother who was killed in Korea. To people who live in a bigtown or City, don,t look down on poor desperate Webster Countians. They live in wonderful, fresh air and if they are able to work they will. They are without a doubt the most friendly, in W.Va call it neighborly. Beautiful Area in the world. I have not lived there since 1946,but as long as momma and Daddy lived ,I was there at least twice a year. You all come over and eat supper soon. Love to all my family from Webester County, W.Va. and elsewhere. I am still COUNTRY. LOVE IMOGENE BICKEL WARD .
