Gerald "Jerry" G Festerling
May 23, 1943 ~ May 6, 2020 (age 76)

Gerald "Jerry" Festerling, 76, of Harbor Springs, passed away May 6, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born on May 23, 1943, the son of Karl "K.C." and Eleanore (Rich) Festerling. He attended Petoskey High School and graduated in 1961.

On June 27, 1964, he married the love of his life, Arlene Bayha. Jerry joined the United States Air Force in 1966 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Upon moving back to Petoskey, Jerry opened "Festerling's Auto Service". Jerry managed to build a loyal clientele and a business he was extremely proud of. Jerry's legacy will continue under the ownership of his daughter, Sherry Beach. This year, Festerling's will be celebrating its 50th year in operation.

When Jerry wasn't at the shop, he was boating or camping. He enjoyed watching birds in his yard and spending time with family. In his younger years, Jerry liked to race stock cars, and recently his grandsons took up the sport. It was rare if Jerry missed one of his grandson's races. He was a hard worker, he loved his family and he will be deeply missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlene; his daughters, Natalie (Matthew) Kottman of Commerce Township and Sherry (John) Beach of Harbor Springs; grandchildren, Kala Kottman, Zack Beach and Cody Beach; brothers, Richard (Shirley) Festerling of Lawton, Michigan and Dennis (Sandy) Festerling of Harbor Springs; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, K.C. and Eleanore Festerling; and his brother, Donald (Thelma) Festerling.

There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Out of respect for his family, we ask that you please wear a face mask or covering during your visit and due to state guidelines, a limited amount of visitors will be permitted inside the building at one time.

A private family service will take place on Wednesday at Stone Funeral Home and will be officiated by Rev. David Behling. Burial will take place immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery.

The Festerling family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Legion, Post 281.
