Wanda Short Smith Tharpe went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She was born on July 22, 1952 and was the daughter of Mary Sisk Short Welch and Charles W. "Buck" Short. She was preceded in death by Ethel M. Painter who was like her mother.

She is survived by one daughter Maegan D. Tharpe Kibler and husband Michael of Stanley. Wanda is also survived by three very precious grandchildren MaeKayla J. Kibler, Desirea S. Knowles, and Michael Ryan Kibler, a brother- Charles "Chuck" Short and wife Rebecca "Becky", brother & sister in laws Russell "Rusty" Painter, Tammy Smelser & husband Rob, Lori Baugher & husband Jacob, Brenda Gochenour, and Bonnie Bradley. Ricky Painter is deceased.

She was a lifelong member of the Stanley Baptist Church, where she had taught and directed children and sang in the church choir.

She was married to Melvin Julian "Buzz" Smith, who is deceased, from 1968 to 1970, then to Ilias F. Soukas from 1977 to 1980 and was later married to Louis Cornelius "Peanut" Tharpe, who resides in Front Royal, from 1984 to 1991.

Wanda spent a lot of time in the health care industry, first working in Warren County then with the PMH Home Care Team.

The job she loved was at the Hawksbill Recreation Park where she grew up and retired from at age 61.

She will be at the Stanley Baptist Church on Thursday, May 7, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm for limited visitation and book signing.

A private burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Cave family Cemetery in Stanley.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date in July.
