The Wernette family came to Texas under Henry Castro in 1845. They sailed on "The Probus" from Antwerp and landed in New Orleans, Louisiana after 51 days. From there they took a steamer for Galveston, Texas. On the way from New Orleans to Galveston, 6 year old Joseph was lost. He was playing on the deck and fell overboard. The captain stopped the ship and a search was made but the body of the unfortunate young immigrant could not be found.
