Son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Ent) Shellhorn. Married Anna Elizabeth DeWitt on November 3, 1881 in Cincinnati, Nebraska.
Father of three sons, Jacob B. 1882, Floyd W. 1885 and Charles R. 1889.

SABETHA HERALD- Sabetha, Kansas- Monday, August 18, 1926- Page 7.

Death of Peter M. Shellhorn, old settler, noted in the early days as having a house of hospitality for rich and poor, was interred in the Cincinnati cemetery near DuBois Sunday beside his wife in the presence of a large number of friends. Mostly those who came to pay their respects were citizens who had been in the Cincinnati neighborhood many decades.

Peter M. Shellhorn settled near Cincinnati fully fifty years ago; perhaps it was more. In the early days it was his custom to pull covered wagons through the Nemaha river ford, make no charge for it, and feed the travelers at his table in addition.

Mr. Shellhorn was a noted host. His door was always open, his table set for guests. Nearly everything provided for the table was raised on the farm. Mr. Shellhorn won and retained the friendship of hundreds of friends.

He was born at Sedalia, Mo., in 1851 and was aged 75 years, 4 months and 5 days. He had been ill but a short time. He tended his own crops this summer. He leaves three sons and one daughter. His brother was formerly in charge of the pumping station for the Rock Island at Sabetha. One son, Charles, lives at Pawnee. The other two, Jake and Floyd, are married and farm between Bern and DuBois. Mr. Shellhorn had lived thirty-seven years on the farm where he died. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 p.m. Sunday.
