SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Ann Compaan, 79, of Sioux Center died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Daniel De Groot and the Rev. Gilmer Compaan officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mrs. Compaan was born April 27, 1919, in Stickney, S.D., the daughter of Dick and Whyna (Maas) DeWaard. She graduated from the eighth grade at Zieback County (S.D.) school.

She married Peter Compaan on June 6, 1944, in Lynden, Wash. The couple lived in Hull, N.D. before moving to Edgerton, Minn., in 1962. They moved to Sioux Center in 1964. He died in 1982.

She was a member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church and was involved with Foster Grandparent Program, having served on the advisory council for two years. She enjoyed playing games and jigsaw puzzles.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Sylvia; a grandson, Bryan; a sister, Florence; a brother, Charles; and three stepbrothers, John, Lou and Joe.
