Son of Walter Dreffs and Helen Mankowski. Married to Helen Jean Millikin 27 October 1956. Obit: Ted Dreffs, age 79, of Gaylord, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Ted was born Oct. 28, 1926 in Johannesburg and had been a lifelong resident of Otsego County. In 1956 he married Jean Millikin, who preceded him in death. Ted was a laborer, working as a carpenter and at Gaylord Lumber Yard, Hicks Concrete, Gaylord Redi-Mix, Gaylord Feed and Grain, U.S. Plywood (later Georgia-Pacific) and at Feeny Motors driving cars. He was an auxiliary police officer and became an officer with the city police department. He was a volunteer fireman for 42 years, serving as chief for several years. Ted had a very strong faith and was a member of St. Mary Cathedral. He was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society and Knights of Columbus as a third- and fourth-degree member. He was a past Grand Knight and worked the K of C bingo every Thursday. Ted was the best dad and best friend one could have. He loved spending time with his family and was a great storyteller. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, in 1988; his mother, Helen (Mankowski) in 1997; an infant brother, Eugene; his wife, Jean, in 1985; and his identical twin brother, Ben, in 2004. He is survived by his daughters, Judy (Richard) Dreffs Strumbell of Eveleth, Minn., Jeri Kay (Russell) Rich of Alpena, Jan (Dan Schut) Pytlowany of Cadillac, Julie (Mark) Long of Vienna Corners and Jayne (Fred) Dreffs Lafnear of Gaylord; 11 grandchildren, Jada, Luke and Zack (identical twins), Pam, Ryan, Tiffiney, Amber, Krystal, Alexanderia, Thaddeus (TJ) and Bob; and great-grandson, Tanner. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Cathedral, the Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Gaylord.
