Wittmann, Amelia M. (Nee Ardai) Age 74 years, of West Bend, April 5, 2000. Beloved wife of the late Ludwig. Loved mother of Michael (Janet), Steven (Mary), Donald (Cathy) and James (Mary). Dear grandma of Brenda, Matthew, Bryan, Jill and Tyler. Sister of Rosita Graff-Messerli. Sister-in-law of Elaine Ardai, Mary Ardai, Vivian Ardai, Barbara (Harry) Husting, Heinz (Caroline) Puff and Joan (Francis) Janous. Amelia M. Wittmann

Amelia M. Wittmann, nee Ardai, of West Bend, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, at the age of 74.

She was born April 7, 1925, in Washington D.C., to the late Henry and Maria (nee Szauberer) Ardai, and graduated in 1947 from Ben Franklin University in Washington D.C., with a BS degree in accounting.

On Dec. 26, 1947, she married Ludwig Wittmann in Fairfax County, Va., and shortly thereafter, they settled in West Bend where they raised their four boys.

Amelia was very active with the former West Bend Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps where she started its first meal program called "Amelia's Meals on Wheels," cooking in roasters and electric frying pans.

She was a very active volunteer in many community organizations and served as the school crossing guard at South Main and Chestnut streets for more than 25 years.

She especially enjoyed helping first-graders at Fair Park School with the Partners in Reading Program.

Survivors include four sons, Michael (Janet) of Aurora, Ill., Steven (Mary) or Oregon, Wis., Donald (Cathy) of Kewaskum and James (Mary) of West Bend; five special grandchildren, Brenda, Matthew, Bryan, Jill and Tyler; a sister, Rosita Graff-Messerli of Pompano Beach, Fla.; five sisters-in-law, Elaine Ardai and Mary Ardai, both of Falls Church, Va., Vivian Ardai of Middleton, Barbara (Harry) Husting of Venice, Fla. and Joan (Francis) Janous of Madison, S.D.; a brother-in-law, Heinz (Caroline) Puff of Arbor Vitae; other relatives and many dear friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband on April 16, 1990; three sisters, Helen, Stephania and Mary; and three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Henry.

Visitation at Holy Angels Church, West Bend, will be Friday, April 7, from 4 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m.

Father Jerry Repenshek will be the presider, and burial will be Saturday in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
