Rutha was the daughter of Elisha and Frances Moseley Brooks. She married George Washington Watson (1819-1862) in 1840 in Paulding County, GA. According to the work by Mrs. Mary Isabelle Rogers Algee (1930-2001) of Pensacola, George and Rutha had seven children:
A. Mary Elizabeth (1841-1934)
B. Wilson Allen (1842-1915)
C. Burton H. (1845- ?)
D. John William (1848-1880)
E. Sarah I. (1850-1859)
F. Martha Ann (1853-1893)
G. Susan Isabelle (1856-1953) - Susan's Bible lists her mother's Ruth's birth year as 1819 instead of 1818.

Mrs. Algee wrote that Rutha 'died in Columbus, GA from blood poisoning after the extraction of a tooth.' A possible burial site of Rutha is the historic Linwood Cemetery, which is on a hill on the north side of downtown Columbus. A cemetery representative advised that they do not have a record of her, however, most of the records were destroyed by the invading soldiers during the war. A death notice or obituary for Rutha is unlikely to be found as the Daily Columbus Enquirer records are only available for Nov 4, 1858 to Dec 24, 1858 on microfilm, and the Columbus Weekly Enquirer is missing 1858-1859.

Mrs. Algee also wrote that Rutha's husband George died in the front lines at the Battle of Perryville Kentucky in 1862.
