GRETNA, Neb. - Alferd Frederick Zessin, 83, of Gretna, formerly of the Springfield area, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Parkland, the son of Carl Albert and Clara Schulz Zessin. Mr. Zessin worked as a machinist at WABCO for more than 40 years. He also was a volunteer fireman for the Richwood Fire Department in Peoria for 18 years. Survivors: wife, Ruby; four sons, Gary (wife, Nancy) Zessin of Gretna, Dan and Bert Zessin of Fayetteville, Ga., and Roger Zessin of Corpus Christi, Texas; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Zessin of Springfield; and three sisters, Helen Browning of Springfield, June Shields of Greenview and Betty Hartley of Petersburg. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Hurley Funeral Home in Greenview. Interment: Greenview Cemetery.
