Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, rural Langford. Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, was in charge of arrangements.
Shirley died at Marshall County Healthcare Center as the result of a car accident on Friday, February 16, 2007, one mile south of Britton.
Shirley Jean Bailey was born October 24, 1928, in Stearns County, Minnesota, to Philip and Ruth (Carlson) Bailey. She attended elementary and high school in Sauk Centre and graduated in 1946. She enjoyed playing the trombone and held first chair.
She met John Albert Hoglund in Britton. She and John attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. They were later united in marriage October 8, 1949, at Sauk Centre, MN. They first lived in Little Sauk, MN, and then moved in 1952 to Langford where they farmed until their retirement. Shirley also worked at the Dakotah plants in Eden and Webster for many years.
She enjoyed quilting, stamping, scrapbooking, reading, and doing things for her children and grandchildren. On her last Christmas she presented each of her children with a scrapbook that she had created filled with many pictures and memories
She attended the Sisseton Assembly of God Church and was a member of the local Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her husband; her children Glenyce (Victor III) Emigh, Winsted, MN; Laela (Gaylon) Van Zee, Miller; Berton (Christie) Hoglund, Rose Hill, KS; Cindy Hoglund, Sioux Falls; Bryan (Lisa) Hoglund, Haysville, KS; Rick (Ronda) Hoglund, Wahpeton, ND; her sister, Lorraine (Merle) Olson, Hutchinson, MN; her cousin, Allen (Dottie) Needham, who grew up in her parents' home; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, her grandparents, and one infant grandson.
Music for the funeral was provided by Gloria Slaamot, Christine Hoglund, Nels and Angie Easterby, and the Praise Band.
Casketbearers were Victor Emigh, Shane Emigh, Shannon Van Zee, Matt Van Zee, Trevor Hoglund, and Monte Hoglund. Honorary casketbearers were Brad Hoglund, Seth Hoglund, Jeremy Van Zee, Amy Hoglund, Christine Hoglund, Shawna Van Zee, Ryan Hoglund, and Alisha Hoglund.
