MILLS RIVER, NC-- Helen Fancher Anderson, age 88, died on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Lodge at Mills River. Helen was born in Johnson City, TN on July 12, 1928. She spent the early years of her life in foster homes in Tennessee and North Carolina before locating with Andrew and Fannie Fancher in Andrews, NC.
Helen married the love of her life, William Donald Anderson, on November 11, 1945 in Union County, Georgia. She was 17 years old at the time. They had a wonderful, loving life together until Donald's death, November 26, 2012.
Helen is survived by one son, William Donald Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Tryon, NC; one grandson, Andrew Anderson of Hendersonville, NC; one special nephew, Willis Glenn Anderson of Asheville and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a very special niece, Gail Anderson of Andrews, NC.
Helen enjoyed and had a great passion for crafts, painting and needlework. She worked as a cosmetologist for several years at the Salon of Hair Styling in Asheville where she developed many long lasting friendships, which she cherished until her death. Helen was a member of the Naples Baptist Church in Naples, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
