Mary Innes-Ker, Duchess of Roxburgh, formerly Lady Mary Evelyn Hungerford Crewe-Milnes, was a daughter of Robert Crewe-Milnes, 1st Marquess of Crewe, by his second marriage to Lady Margaret Etienne Hannah (Peggy) Primrose, daughter of Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, who served as Prime Minister, and Hannah de Rothschild, one of the greatest heiresses of the period. She was a goddaughter of King George V and one of the first seven women appointed as magistrates in 1919 following the passing of the Sex Disqualification Removal Act of 1919.

She was married on October 24, 1935, at Westminster Abbey, to George Innes-Ker, 9th Duke of Roxburghe. They were divorced in 1953. She resided at West Horsley Place, a Grade I listed country house in West Horsley, to the east of Guildford in Surrey, and its accompanying estate, which she inherited from her mother in 1967.
