Mrs Lilly Redding Rice, 79, of near Yoder, was fatally burned in her home shortly before 3 p.m. yesterday, when her clothing caught fire as she worked at her kitchen range.
She was rushed to Lutheran Hospital here, where she died at 4:38 p.m. Alone in the house at the time, she was found by her husband, Jesse, when he retured from doing some work on their farm, which is located about two miles northwest of Yoder.
The couple had been married 50 years. Born in the Zanesville, Ind., area. Mrs Rice was one of 10 children.
Survivors include, besides the husband, a son, Charles J. Rice, Fort Wayne, two daughters, Miss Cora E. Rice, at home, and Mrs Florence, Waterson, Pleasant Township; three sisters, Mrs Alvin Scott, Mrs John Whiteman and Mrs Albert Sonnenberg, all of Fort Wayne; four brothers, George and Arthur Redding, Fort Wayne; Grover, Ellenburg, Wash., and Ivan, Florida, and seven grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Elzey & Son Funeral Home, Ossian, and will be returned to the residence, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. The casket will not be opened.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fairview Church of God, Yoder, the Rev. Harold Mischler and the Rev. H. L. Walmsley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian.
