A funeral for Samye June Steward of McMinnville will be held at 2 o'clock today in Bethel Baptist Church, McMinnville, with the Rev. Rich Bryson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.
Mrs. Steward died July 11, 2003, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 64.
She was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Erick, Okla., the daughter of Hulon Turner and Velma Lou Tippins Flowers. She was raised and educated in Erick.
She and Larry Steward were married Aug. 31, 1958, in Erick.
She moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., in 1964. While raising her children, she attended Northern Arizona University, graduating with a degree in journalism. In 1985, she moved to Cottonwood, Ariz., where she worked as an insurance agent with her husband.
Mrs. Steward was a former editor of the Northern Arizona Alumni magazine. She belonged to the Society of Professional Journalists; Action on Cancer Hospitality Manor and Meals on Wheels, both in Cottonwood, Ariz.; Big Brothers and Sisters of Arizona and the Oklahoma Music Federation. She was a co-founder of the Arizona Mental Health Society and former president of Beta Sigma Sorority.
She loved writing, singing and volunteering. She also enjoyed motor home travel with her grandchildren and birdwatching.
Her family said she was deeply faithful and always served her God.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Bryan Steward of Tigard, Rod Steward of Tualatin, Brad Steward of Portland, Randy Steward of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Brent Steward of Plano, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Jean Foster.
