Joseph “Joe” Roy Chalk
January 16, 1932 - April 2, 2018

Joseph “Joe” Roy Chalk of Hebron passed away April 2, 2018. Joe was born in his Newport Kentucky home January 16, 1932 to the late William and Charlotte (nee Stoeckle) Chalk.

As a child of The Great Depression he held several jobs in his youth including selling newspapers on the street corner, delivering groceries after school, working in a flour mill and an open air market. He was a graduate of Newport Catholic High School class of 51’. After high school he served in the US Army Reserves for 12 years and had a lifelong career with General Electric as a supervisor. He retired after 37 years in 1991. During his “retirement” he worked at Fiesta Liquor in Hebron for 12 years. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Molloy Council #1301.

Joe’s faith brought him to become a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Burlington Kentucky for the last 43 years. He was fortunate to serve the church as a minister of hospitality, former school board member, festival volunteer and played a vital role in IHM’s Friday Night Bingo for over 25 years, some of which he held the position of chairman. Along with all of the church activities Joe loved to read, travel with his wife Peggy, bet on horses and watch UK basketball.

Joe is preceded in death by his brothers Vincent and Ralph Chalk, sisters Mary Rose (Stan) Brauch, Mercedes (Clarence) Silbersack, Miriam Chalk and Sr. Coletta Chalk SFP and grandson Samuel Edward Chalk.

A visitation will be held April 5th at Immaculate Heart of Mary from 5 to 7pm. Mass at 7pm. Please join the family for a Celebration of Life following Mass in Britt Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Newport Central Catholic High School: 13 Carothers Rd. Newport Ky 41071. He has requested that his earthly body be donated to UC college of medicine.
