He was a son of Edward and Christine (Peak) Ritchie. He married Margarette Ida Redmon; she died in 1918. He later married Mary Wiesbrock on January 19, 1921 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore. Prior to moving to Streator, he farmed in the Sunbury Township area.

Survivors include: Mrs. Ritchie and ten children: Anthony of Eureka, Edward of Chicago, Catherine (Virgil) Smith, Margaret (Lavern) Sauers, Dorothy (John) Welch, Helen (William) Roney Finney, Theresa (Ervin) Harcharik, and three daughters from a previous marriage: Eureta (Harold) Ruddy of Pontiac, Mary Elizabeth (Justin) Legner of Blackstone, and Sr. Mary Benedicta OSF of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

Also surviving are two brothers: Robert Perry of Ancona and Tewell of Louisville, Ky., two sisters: Nettie (Ken) Mills and Julie (Lucien) Ritchie of Louisville, Ky., 46 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, and three children who died in infancy.
