OBITUARY
June Konopka
JUNE 12, 1933 – APRIL 14, 2020
Obituary of June Konopka
Passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Richland, Michigan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald R. Konopka; sisters, Christine Brown, Lourine Baird, Adele Elder, Zelda Harner, and brothers, Hollis Harner, Sr, James Harner and Clayton Harner. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Konopka and numerous nieces and nephews. June was born in Jackson, Michigan to Oscar Earl and Eunice (McBride) Harner on June 12, 1933. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1951 she began working at Zimmerman Fuel Distributors as a bookkeeper. She remained in that position until retiring in 2015 after 64 years with the company. June was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery Program. She also volunteered at Arbor Manor where she ran a group, Cards with June, for many years. While at Arbor Manor she became involved with the Nursing Home Olympics, which she coordinated for several years. In 2009 June received the Heath Care Angel Volunteer of the Year Award. When not working or volunteering June enjoyed traveling and gambling, sometimes at the same time, golfing and bowling. A special thank you to Noel, her hospice nurse, who was always there for her. Also, thanks to supportive friend, Sally Shaw, your weekly calls were a source of comfort to her. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or to the Youth Group at St. John's United Church of Christ, 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, MI 49203. Due to the COVID 19 safety protocols on personal contact a memorial service will be held at a later date.
