Frances graduated from Hondo High School in 1942 where she was in the pep squad. She met Oral Sparks during World War II when he was stationed at Hondo Air Base. After graduation, they were married on May 1, 1943. During her working years, she worked at Texas Aviation Industries where she became a weather forecaster for the pilots, Medina Electric Coop, the tax office, and city hall.
Frances was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (with her confirmation on May 30, 1948) and she served on several committees and circles as well as being a 50+ year member of Hermann Sons. Frances and her husband enjoyed square dancing, hunting, card games, and dominoes. She also baked cakes for the monthly birthday parties at the local nursing homes.
Due to her husband’s failing health, they transferred to San Augustine to be closer to her daughter and she became a volunteer at the local nursing home assisting residents with bingo and other activities. She earned several years of awards for her voluntary efforts at Twin Lakes Rehab and Care Center.
