Captain of Company H, 20th Tennessee Cavalry. Wounded and treated at the Lauderdale Springs Confederate Field Hospital, but died from a gunshot wound and is believed to be one of the many soldiers buried in unmarked graves at the Lauderdale Springs CSA Cemetery.

Son of Jesse & Priscilla (Gunn) Gardner of Weakley County, TN. Married to Rebecca Malissa "Lissy" Abington in Obion County, TN. Father to Turner B. Gardner and George B. Gardner.
