Mary Viola Smith passed away Monday, November 28, 2005, at Deering Nursing Home in Odessa at the age of 88.
She was born November 24, 1917 in Mason County to Maude and August Simon.
In May 1939, she married Alton K. Smith in Mason. In 1949, they moved north to Clayton, N.M., where they lived the ranch life and raised their family. In July 1984, they retired back to the Hill Country to Buchanan Lake Village where she spent many hours working in her vegetable garden and flower garden.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tow, TX. After the death of her husband in January 2002, she moved to Odessa.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton K. Smith; daughter, Rebecca Maude Logsdon; and two grandsons, Herby Welch and Dewayne Welch.
She is survived by her son, Randy Smith and wife Betty of Odessa; son, Darby Smith and wife Bernadette of Clayton, N.M.; son-in-law, Darrell Logsdon of Colorado City; brothers, Luke Simon and Clarence Simon; and a sister, Lou Fleming, all of Mason; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Viola Smith would like to thank the nursing staff and the administration at Deering Nursing Home for the care and love they gave her for the past 2 ? years.
A funeral service will be held Friday, December 2, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Tow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Stanley Nixon and Rev. James Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow at the Tow Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Ryan Smith, Alton Charles Smith, Wayne Jordan, Gerald Jordan, Roger Jordan, and John Fleming.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tow.
