Obituary - The San Antonio Daily Light (San Antonio, Texas), July 29, 1896:
Miss Scofield's Funeral.
The remains of the late Miss Jane Scofield were shipped to Laurel, Md., last night for interment. The funeral services were held at the residence of the deceased's parents, West End, yesterday afternoon at 6 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Dr. L.H. Morey, of the Madison Square Presbyterian church, of which the deceased was a member. Dr. Morey spoke a beautiful eulogy over the body, extolling upon her many virtues and attainments. The attendance was large and the floral decorations were very pretty. Several graduating classes of the high school, the summer normal and nearly all of the public school teachers in the city attended and laid flowers on the casket.
The body was escorted to Laurel by the deceased's brother, Mr. Louis Scofield. Prof. Schoch, the principal of the high school, in speaking of the deceased, said that she was one of the most beloved teachers in his school, and that her place would be extremely hard to fill.
