"C.S. Mathews Dies Saturday of Infection"
Had Been Ill For Last 2 Months; Was 51 Years Old. Carl S Mathews, 51, proprietor of the Mathews Transfer Company, died at his home, 521 West Wylie Street, at 11 o'clock Saturday night of an infection of a leg from which he had been suffering for more than two months. Mathews, a life-long resident in bed since the initial infection. He had offices of his transfer company on north College avenue in the Thrasher Bros Hardware store. He was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church and was an active worker. He had been an usher in the Church for many years. Survivor's include the widow, Mrs. Lyda Mathews; one daughter, Irva Cleon Mathews; two sisters, Mrs. Matt Ferguson of Bloomington, and Mrs. Homer Breeden of Bloomfield, and one brother, Burthal Mathews of Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Fairview Methodist Church with the Rev. R.O. Pearson and the Rev. F.M. Schneider of Vincennes, formerly of Bloomington, in church Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Active pallbearrs will be Prof. L.E. Dyer, Fred A Colpatts, Carl Nikirk, Roy Smith, Len Whaley and Tom Penrod. Honorary pallbearers will be O.M. Routh, Carl Jobstvogt, Edward Wenerich, Oscar Nicholson, John Womack, W.O. Mechlam, Mason Rhodes and Luther Chambers. Flower bearers will be Mildred Jeweil, Lucille Murphy, Helen McAninch, Mrs. Ray Osman, Mrs. Tom Penrod, and Bessie Catheart.
