Longtime Shawnee resident Maria "Nana" Kernell, 50, passed away Sunday, August 5, in a hospital in Ada.
She was born July 2, 1957, to Benjamin and Mary Jane McClure in Talihina, Okla.

She attended school in Coalgate through high school and attended Murray State College in Tishomingo, Okla.

She married Rocky Kernell March 10, 1976, in Coalgate, Okla.

She was a homemaker and housewife and was a member Church of the Living God in Shawnee.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed listening to her Southern Gospel music, drawing and coloring precious moment's pictures, crocheting, and spending time with her grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin; maternal grandparents, Frank and Vina Carpenter; and paternal grandmother, Lula Miller.

Survivors include her husband, Rocky Kernell of Shawnee; son, John Kernell of Shawnee; daughter, Jessica Richardson and husband, Donnell, of Shawnee; grandchildren, Anthony and Alexander of Shawnee; mother, Mary Jane McClure of Coalgate; sisters, Zoanna Stockwell and husband, Robert, of Lehigh, Okla., Lisa Taylor and husband, John, of Booneville, Ark., Dee Dee McClure of Kiowa, Okla., Gena Willis and husband, Steve, of Columbia, S.C.; brothers, Joseph Eugene McClure and wife, Charlotte, of Coalgate, Rueben McClure of Eufaula, Ferlin McClure of Coalgate; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear and loved friends.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Living God, Shawnee, with the Rev. Keith Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Kernell Cemetery.
