Loretta passed away nine days shy of her 99th birthday, on 2 June 2019.

She was born in Sumas, Washington, to Clarence Albert and Ival M. (Mendenhall) Hottell. Her siblings were Rose, Ruth, and Dean.

Loretta graduated from Rosland High School and graduated from business school in Seattle, Washington.

Then met Harold David Chivers; they married on 23 November 1940, in the District of Columbia, USA.

Her favorite actor was Jimmy Stewart, so she was very attracted to Harold, as he was tall, dark, and handsome. They lived in Washington D.C. where Loretta worked at the pentagon and Harold was applying for the Coast Guard.

After the war, they moved to Seattle where she worked at Weyerhaeuser until retirement in 1985.

Loretta had three children: Frances , Joanne, and Lawrence. She had two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Loretta had some memorable trips to Switzerland, Japan and Australia to visit distant relatives.

She had a deep desire to support local organizations like the Pacific Northwest Wildlife Art Show.

Loretta had a love of gardening, which prompted her to volunteer at the Snake Lake Nature Center and was also active at Christ Episcopal Church.

One of her favorite affirmations was:
GOOD MORNING!

This is God

I will be handling all your problems today

I will not need your help

So enjoy your day!
