Karla was born in Fulton county and grew up as “the rose between two thorns,” with her two brothers and parents in Cuba, IL. She moved to East Peoria where she married Ed on February 6, 1965. She joined the East Peoria Police Department on May 13, 1964 and retired May 13, 1999. She enjoyed her career there for 35 years. Her officers never stopped checking in with her. She was a wonderful and dedicated daughter and wife, taking special care of her loved ones until their last moments. She enjoyed the Tuesday girls for lunch, movies, and lifetime friendships. She assembled floats for the Festival of Lights for many years. She road-tripped solo or with her favorite young men every holiday she could making memories with all her family members. She felt very loved and at home with her First United Methodist “Church family”. She participated in many activities where she made wonderful friends. We know that she is very happily reunited and fishing with her parents, brothers and husband. We already miss your kind voice and silly little sneezes .... love you so much Grandma, Auntie and Friend.

Karla is preceded in death by husband Edward Buhl; parents Raymond and Buelah Burrows; and her two brothers Max Burrows and Lee Burrows. She is survived by her step-daughter Stella Kidwell of Ohio; step-granddaughter Kellie (Dee) Eastman of Ohio and step-grandson Don Shepherd of Urbana, IL; Three step-great-grandsons Kevin Sylvester of Florida; Jason (Traci) Knuth of Ohio; Joe (Jenni) Knuth of Minier, IL and 7 great-great-grandchildren; Sister in law Helen Burrows of North Lake, IL; Nieces and Nephews Barb (John) Galton of Addison, IL; Marvin Ray Burrows of the Philippines; Bonnie (Dwight) Gustafson of Canby, MN; Mark (Karen) Burrows of Byron, IL; Rita Eash of Mesa, AZ; Debbie (Ken) Alexander of Roscoe, IL; Daniel (Michele) Burrows of Fort Myers, FL; Lisa (Ron) Johnsen of Fitchburg, WI, 22 great-nieces and nephews and 20 great-great-nieces and nephew.

The family would like to say a special thank you for the love and support from: Carol, Viv & others who drove Karla to her recent Chemo treatments in Iowa City; Mindy for all her unconditional love over the years and actually being that loved one who checked on her when we were so very worried; Pastor Mary for all her visits and prayers every time that she was needed “no matter what” and her Grandson Joe & Jenni for being there to love and pray over her physically when so many of us can not. She loved us all but you have a special place in our hearts for being there when she really needed you. You are all doing God’s work and we are forever grateful! We leave you with one final quote from her red headed niece “she just simply loved me & taught me that life was great.” Until we meet again our sweet Karla.

Private graveside services will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. A memorial gathering for Karla to include family and friends will be planned for the future and held at a later date.
