Baxter, a native of Marion, Ind., moved to Chickasha in 1899 and to Nicoma Park in 1939. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War I and a charter member of the Chickasha chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Margret Naomi; seven daughters, Mrs. Seltha Thompson, Nicoma Park; Mrs Nettie Lee Stiffler, Cullman, Ala.; Mrs. Gennevie Phariss, Lawton; Mrs. Joyce Pheora Alexander, Nicoma Park; Mrs. Margaret Jean Whitener, Greenville, S. C.; Mrs. Frances Grace Whitener, Crane, Mo., and Naomi Ruth Baxter, Lawton; two sons, James Jr., 424 NW 85, and Samuel, Norman; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lecklider and Ruth Baxter, both of Pendleton, Ore., and a brother, Clyde, Chickasha.
