Joshua 'Josh' Hayes, son of the late Bud Hayes and Nancy Ann (Hargess) Hayes, was born September 20, 1878 in Arkansas and departed this life July 29, 1968 in Thayer Nursing Home, Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
He was married at Thayer, Missouri on March 27, 1896 to Mattie Ann Rogers. To this union eleven children were born.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Ann Hayes of West Plains, Missouri; six sons, W.C. Hayes of McCamey, Texas; R.V. Hayes of West Plains, Missouri; Everett Hayes of Chicago, Illinois; W.W. Hayes of Monahans, Texas; George Hayes of St. Louis, Missouri; Pershing Hayes of West Plains, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Flora Williamson of St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Troy Whiteside of West Plains, Missouri; and Mrs. R.E. Hatfield of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one brother, John Henry Hayes of West Plains, Missouri; 28 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. In addition to their family, they raised Pauline Hayes Glapenske of St. Charles, Missouri.
Two sons preceded him in death.
