NEW PALESTINE — Hollace Dene Chandler, formerly of Bloomington, passed away on April 15, 2014.
Dene was born in Bloomington, Indiana, April 7, 1940, to Arlie Paul Chandler and Mary Frances (Waldon) Chandler. Dene was owner and operator of the New Palestine Hardware Store Inc. until a few months before his death. During Dene’s senior year at BHS, he went to work with the Haag Drug Store. His promotions took him and his family to other areas. In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ruth Hobbs. They have 2 daughters. When the Haag chain closed, Dene moved back to Indiana and bought his store in New Palestine, Indiana, and operated a successful business for 29 years.
Dene is survived by his wife of 55 years; 2 daughters, Tina (Dave) Crosby and Gina Sexton; 2 granddaughters, Holly (Ross) Nordenberg and Stacey Crosby; 4 brothers, Dannie Chandler Sr. (Paul Fischer), Warren Johnson Jr. (LuDan) Jack Johnson, Tyler Johnson and sister, Arleen O’Mullane; one uncle, Melvin Chandler (Shirley); 3 aunts, Norma Waldon, Mary Ducharme and Mildred Pizzola; 21 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Dene was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Brady; brothers, Timmie Johnson, infant Tommy Johnson; sisters, Shaun (Johnson) Shadoin, and infant Brenda Chandler.
There will be a memorial for Dene at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Unity Church on South Rogers Street. Those wishing to make contributions can send to the Heart Association.
