Born in Madison County, New York , she was brought to Chautauqua County by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chester Crofoot when very young. She attended the one room school house at Deans Corner, traveling each day by following a trail of marked trees.

She married Lyman Bush in 1844. They took a wedding trip by ox cart back to Madison County. In 1851 Lyman and Eliza bought 50 acres of land, which included a frame hose and barn on Waterman Hill Road near the Dry Brook Intersection. They added more acreage. After Lyman died in 1865 (or 1885, conflicting dates) each of his 3 daughters were given 22 acres, his son Oliver was given 36 acres, and his son Anzo along with his widow Eliza received 50 acres and the house. In 1952 the farm was declared a Century Farm, after 100 years remaining in the same family.
