Obituary - Western Kansas World, March 9, 1922, p. 1

IN MEMORIAM
Elizabeth Jane white was born on March 23, 1833 in Washington County, Illinois; Was married to W.L. Anderson March 23, 1856. They moved to Carroll County, Missouri in 1866; moved to Rice County, Kansas in 1887. They came to Trego County in 1878, settled on a homestead in Riverside Township, proved up in 1882 and moved to Ellis where Mr. Anderson died September 14, 1895 (1894). She died March 5th, being 88 years, 11 months and five days old. She was converted and joined the M.E. Church at the age of 14 years and lived true to the faith till the time of her death, nearly 75 years. She leaves behind to mourn, her nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, two daughters and one son, one brother and her niece Elizabeth White, who has lived with her for the past 12 years and a host of friends and acquaintances.
She was buried from the M.E. Church at Ellis of which she was a charter member in Mount Hope Cemetery by Rev. Spalding of that place assisted by Rev. Harper on Tuesday, March 7, 1922.

There are but one set of pioneers for each county. Those that blaze the trails and plant the trees for future generations to enjoy passed on and no one takes their places. We may walk in their footprints, but we are not pioneers.

Grandmother Anderson's place in the outskirts of Ellis was the resting place of many travelers. The little old pitcher pump by the roadside in front of her house gave forth for water to quench the thirst of many long before drinking fountains were thought of. The shade trees planted by she and Grandfather Anderson, nearly 40 years ago, were a source of pride to the people of Ellis.

Grandma Anderson did not suffer when she died. She was soothed and sustained by an unfaltering trust and lay down to rest. She fell asleep while bright angels hovered near. Shall we mourn that this good woman has returned to her maker? We should not but we cannot help it. We see today through a mist of tears but hope she's a star and listening love can hear the rustle of a wing.

Her son, Samuel Anderson, lives in Galena, Kansas. She has two grandchildren, Alma and Howard Anderson, attending Western State Normal, at Hays, Kansas, Lucy Anderson a granddaughter at Big Timber, Mont. Amy Anderson, a grand daughter at Meeker, Colo,; a daughter, Mrs. John Allman, at Salina, Kansas; a granddaughter, Mrs. N.H. Griffin, McCracken, Kansas; a granddaughter Mrs. R.H. Traylor, Plains, Kansas and a great granddaughter, Wilma Traylor, of the same place. A grandson, E.W. Allman, of Kansas City; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Messick, of Topeka, Kansas; two grandsons, Arthur and Clarence Messick, of Topeka, Kansas; a niece, Elizabeth White, of Ellis and a brother, Dan White, of Ashley, Ill.

By her Grandson, E.W. Allman.
