Ray Brewer, 82, of McComb, died June 29, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Jackson.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until services at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Byron Wilkinson and the Rev. LaVerne Summerlin officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Brewer was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Pike County. He was the son of Ed A. Brewer and May Cain Brewer. He was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter. His family said he loved to share his vegetables with his neighbors and he loved all children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward Brewer and Earl Brewer; and two sisters, Hazel Reeves and Myrtis Porter.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elma Pope Brewer of McComb; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Emily Brewer of McComb; a sister, Lottie B. Brown of McComb; three grandchildren and their spouses, Sally and Ottis Ward of McComb, Jill and Ken Jackson of McComb, and Blake and Leslie Brewer of Byram; five great-grandchildren, Holly Croteau and her husband Chris, Mindy Ward, Cannon Ward, Hayley Jackson and Maggie Jackson, all of McComb; a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Luke Cothern, Paul Walker, Billy Joe McCulley, David Nunnery, Abe Reeves and Buford Marbury.
