On September 12, 1918, this tall young man of medium build, grey eyes and black hair, walked into the WWI draft registration office in Harrison County, Iowa. He was farming on his own account near Dunlap, Iowa. The 1930 US Census indicates that he was not called up to serve in the war.
He and Inez, both of whom had completed one year of college, were blessed with at least 3 daughters, Ada M., Geneva Ione, and Frances L. In 1940, George was still putting in 70 hours a week farming.
