A member of the city police department for sixteen years, served two years as chief of Spartanburg County rural police during the administration of Sam K. Miller as sheriff. In the law enforcement field, he probably was best known to residents of the city as a supervisor and a police officer at Cleveland Park, a position he filled for a number of years.
Also well known throughout the county as a leading livestock dealer for many years.
A native of Cannon's Camp Ground community of the county; born April 29, 1874, son of the late Lecel and Jane Hansell Cooksey.
A member of the Cannons Campground Methodist Church.
