CMSgt. Floyd W. Akers (USAF Retired), age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Roy, WA August 2, 2007. He was born January 7, 1923 in Spokane, WA to Thomas and Borghild Akers. He grew up in the Post Falls area of Idaho and graduated from Rathdrum High School. He was proud of his service in the Army Air Force during WWII, and his career in the USAF. Floyd enjoyed the aviation industry and flying, tropical cruises, dancing, and time spent with family and friends, especially his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill, and sisters Ethel and Ruth. He is survived by a brother, Ernie (Marlys), daughter Sherrie Sexton (Kelvin), son Jeff (Sharon), grandchildren Mike (Kystal), Nick (Julie), Luke, and Emily, great-grandchildren Caleb, Nevaeh, and Haley. Viewing will be held Thursday, August 9th from 1pm - 8pm at the New Tacoma Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 10, 2007 at 1pm in the Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery. The family would like to thank LaTisha, Beth and the rest of the Group Health Hospice Team for their support, care, kindness and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Floyd's name to Group Health Community Fund, PO Box 34936, Seattle, WA 98124-9924.
