He was born in Farmington, Kentucky and came here in 1978 from Enon, Ohio. He retired as an electrical engineer for Sperry Rand, Hercules and taught at the University of Missouri, Washington University in St. Louis and the University of South Florida. He was a Navy veteran. He earned a doctorate from the University of Michigan. He was a member of several professional groups. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening his orchids.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mamie; two sons, Jonathan of Tampa and Michael of Bradenton; one sister, Bettye Tynes of Cross Hill, South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, and Heather.
