The Fietsam family tells the story of a past generation in Germany that acquired the "Fietsam" name. It was during a war. Two small children were separated from their parents and were wandering the countryside for days. Soldiers came along and found them alone. They couldn't understand what the young children were saying so they gave them the name "Fietsam".
The Strathman's had large family-6 boys and 5 girls. Daughter, Mary Ida died at birth, she was a twin to Barbara.
