David worked at Union Pacific Railroad in Customer Service for 39 years before retiring in October of 2018. He cherished spending time with family, cooking, traveling, listening to music, making puns, and volunteering.

David was born in St Paul MN, after several moves throughout his childhood his family eventually moved to North Platte, NE. David graduated from Aurora High School, Aurora, NE in 1977. He helped his parents at their local Coast to Coast hardware store, where he met his future wife, Susan (Miller). During this same time, he began working for UPRR. Wanting to advance his career at UPRR, David began taking typing classes in his spare time, and transferred to a job in the yard office.

After marrying the love of his life on May 23, 1981, Susan. In 1987, David took a promotion and relocated his family to St. Louis, Missouri. David’s love of music was influenced upon his children, as they began playing different instruments throughout school. David and Susan enjoyed traveling throughout Missouri to watch marching band competitions and band concerts and other activities their children were involved in. David was also active in Boy Scouts, and frequently went camping with Jeremy and Ben, including a canoeing trip to the Canadian Boundary Waters. David also enjoyed watching his children play a variety of sports.

In 2004, UPRR sent David and his family to Omaha, Nebraska. Once here, David took advantage of being closer to family, and often visited various members all around the state. Adding distance to his travel, was the birth of his grandchildren in St. Louis, MO , starting in 2009. In David’s time at home, he developed a love for grilling and smoking meats. After David retired in 2018, he expanded his traveling with wife, Susan. The couple went to various beaches, and especially loved a two week road trip to Upper Peninsula in Michigan, Niagara Falls, Canada and many states on the way back to Omaha.

Throughout all his life, he always put others before himself. Volunteering to help in activities with his children, donating time and money to various causes, and being a constant in the pews at church. He was always willing to make a “dad joke” and humor his children and grandchildren.
