Elkanah Tingley was the son of Thomas & Martha Day Tingley. He married Priscilla Aldrich Tingley and they had five children - Darius (1779-1839 in Attleboro); Patty (1782-1862 in Attleboro); Benjamin (1785-1849 in Attleboro); and Chloe (1788-1810 in Attleboro). Priscilla died in 1790 and Elkanah then married Keziah Mason Tingley and they had five children - Daniel (b-1791 in Attleboro); Anna (b-1792 in Attleboro); Milton (b-1794 in Attleboro); Charles (b-1796 in Harford, PA); and Mason (b-1799 in Harford). He built a log cabin for his family and cleared his 200 acre wooded lot with his sons' help for farming. He then built a new frame house in 1808 on the property and lived there with his third wife (a Miss Hall, first name unknown), having no children with her. Elkanah Tingley was one of the original founders of the old Baptist Church of Harford, PA.
