OBITUARY: Nina Fay Borup Malmen (1934-2016)
Nina Fay Borup Malmen was born at home in the town of West Marshland, Burnett County, Wisconsin, on July 12, 1934, to Olof and Fannie (Roberts) Borup.  She was the eldest of three daughters. Nina passed away November 4, 2016, at her home in Newport, Oregon.
She attended the Alabama Grade School in the Town of Laketown and Trade Lake and Round Lake grade schools.
Nina was baptized at Laketown Lutheran Church, Atlas, Wisconsin, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Trade Lake, Wisconsin.
She graduated from Frederic High School on May 23, 1952, and started working at Northwestern Electric Company in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, on May 24, 1952, as a bookkeeper.
She married James Malmen on August 14, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Falun, Wisconsin.
In May 1955, she moved to San Diego, Calif., where Jim was stationed with the Navy.
She was employed with the Bumble Bee Tuna Fish Company and Sinclair Paints, both in San Diego, CA.
Jim passed away September 14, 1985, and she moved to Newport, Oregon, in 1987.  She was employed at Edward Jones Investments until her retirement. Nina enjoyed writing, crafts and sewing.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and her brother-in-law, Eugene Christopherson. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann, and husband, Ralph Meier, of Newport; granddaughters, Rasena Wagers and her husband, Andy, of Hillsboro, Oregon; and Reanna Haley and her husband, Stephan, of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters, Annette (Dale) Hanson and Sena Christopherson; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Falun on Friday, November 25, at 11 a.m.
