He graduated from Bosse High School in 1959 where he met and later married Carolyn Campbell. They had 59 wonderful years together. Jon was known for his positive spirit, infectious smile and generosity, helping anyone who needed it. Jon had a long career in sales holding jobs at Uncle Charlie's, Farm Boy Meats and Safilo Eyewear.
Jon and Carolyn enjoyed camping at Kentucky Lake for nearly 50 years. He was a great fisherman and was always good at finding where the fish were hanging out. He loved gardening and canning his own tomatoes making juice, salsa and spaghetti sauce. Jon also enjoyed grilling hams, chicken and ribs. He especially looked forward to making Burgoo with his brother Jimmy and nephew James every fall. He also enjoyed playing clabber at The Owls Club, horse racing, music, watching college basketball and exercising (socializing) with his many friends at the YMCA. Jon was a proud Democrat and very involved in politics and current affairs. Above all else he was a doting Papa to his grandkids, rarely missing any of their events. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry.
Jon is survived by his wife of 59 years Carolyn, daughters Traci Schaum (Scott), Leslie Coudret (John) and Tara Carey (Shane), grandkids Nicholas and Grant Carey and Cory and Kristin Schaum, great-grandson Kavin Schaum, brothers Jimmy, Lyman and Kevin Roll and sisters Janice Johnson, Cheri Simmons and Kathi Duncan as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog Ziggy.
A celebration of Jon's life is being planned and will be held at a later date. Published in Courier Press from Mar. 20 to Mar. 22, 2020
