She was born on June 23, 1937 in Suttons Bay, and was the eldest of four children, raised by Pete and Josie Herman. On July 11, 1953 she married Loren Groesser, and they made their home in Ellsworth.
Betty worked over 35 years at Dura Automotive in East Jordan. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and in later years, bingo. Betty also was involved with sports, coaching girls' softball and she loved to watch the Detroit Tigers. Baking cakes for the grandkids and making homemade bread, always gave her joy. Sitting on her big front porch was a favorite and a scoop of ice cream was always available.
She is survived by four children: Bonnie (Gary) Hebden of Florida, Darlene Bolser of East Jordan, Cindy Cebulski of Ellsworth, and Ken (Deb) Groesser of Ellsworth, 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and even a few great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents Pete and Josie, her husband Loren, son Edward, son in-law Rusty Bolser, sisters Ruby LaCrosse and Maxine Steuer, brother Chico Herman, and infant sister Nancy.
The family would like to thank the staff at American House in Charlevoix for the care of Betty over four years and also the staff at Grandvue for the care and support over the last three plus years.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ellsworth Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
