Daughter of John and Maude McNeil. She graduated from Apex High School and completed business college in North Carolina. She moved to Marietta, GA and worked at Lockheed on Dobbins Air Force Base. After meeting James Lamar Haley, they were married and lived in Marietta, GA for 20 years. She worked alongside her husband at their business, Dixie Dry Cleaners, located on Roswell Street in Marietta. She was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church. They moved to Canton, GA in 1973 and in 1980 to Lake Arrowhead in Waleska, GA. She was a member of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA). After her first husband died, she remarried to Dr. Edward Bivens. They lived in Decatur, GA for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Green, Hilda Crawford, Johnsee McFadden, and brother, Byron McNeil. She is survived by two children, Anita Faith Melear (Carl), James Lamar Haley, Jr. (Carole); son-in-law, Jim Bivens (Kathey) of Albemarle, NC; two stepsons, Les and Junco Bivens of Colorado; and grandchildren, Conner McNeil Melear, Jamie Ann Haley, and Abby Marie Haley.
