The deceased who was well known and greatly respected in this community, was born Sept. 22, 1815 in Bourbon county, Kentucky. He came to Springfield in the spring of 1840 and has resided here ever since. For 2 years he was a member of the City Council, and he has always held a prominent position in the city and county. He was married April 17, 1843, to Elizabeth W. Bowling, near Rochester. By a singular coincidence, his wife's birthday was on the same day of the same month as his, she being exactly 3 years his junior. They have five children, two of whom died young. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and three children, the latter being Mrs. S.F. Ridgeway, who resides at the old homestead on North Sixth street; Mrs. I.C. Preston, whose home is in Essex, Ia., and J. C. Logan, a resident of San Francisco, Cal.
For some time previous to his death, Mr. Logan has been one of the firm of Melton & Logan. He was formerly identified with the milling business and was one of the founders of Everybody's Mill, on Seventh street, which was originally operated by the firm of Logan & Johnson. He was a prominent member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and one or more of the lodges of that order will probably take part obsequies.
For years Mr. Logan has been in delicate health, being troubled with a complication of ailments which his physicians were unable to define. His death is undoubtedly the result of a combination of causes. The time of the funeral will be announced tomorrow.
