Married first, artist Jessie Holliday, 15 Jun 1912, in Cambridge, MA, in a "eugenic", non-religious ceremony written by themselves, and reported on widely in the press. Jessie drowned in 1915 in what was reported by the medical examiner to have been suicide. She had become depressed over her self-perceived failure to raise her baby son as perfectly as she had wanted.

1. Dan, b. 6 Jul 1914, d. 23 Dec 2000; m. Elizabeth "Liz" Boott Duveneck; one son, one daughter.

Married second, Alma Victoria Olssen, 31 Mar 1933, in Monticello, NY. She was born 25 Feb 1897 in Tanum, Sweden and died 24 May 1987 in Santa Clara, CA.
