Martha Louisa (Smith) Fremouw, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother passed away at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the age of 91.

A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the United Methodist Church in Northfield, Minn., followed by burial at the Northfield Cemetery.

Martha was born in 1928 to George and Anna (Frey) Smith of Homer, Nebraska. After completing her education, Martha married Merle Walter Fremouw in 1950, settling in Merle’s hometown of Northfield. Martha was a loving wife and mother. In her earlier years she raised her children with kindness and wisdom, teaching them to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. She served as a cub scout den mother and Sunday school teacher. She loved to sew, cook and bake for her family. She read, gardened, enjoyed singing, and kept current on local, national, and world events. Although later physical ailments limited her activities, she remained in her home until the last couple years, hosting family dinners for the holidays. She was a patient and generous person who will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Martha is survived by three sons, Timothy Fremouw of St. Paul, Tommie Fremouw of Rosemount, and Jon (LeeAnn) Fremouw of Eden Prairie; three daughters, Susan (Wayne) Barry of St. Paul, Patricia (Anthony Moore) Fremouw of Minneapolis, and Kathleen (Ronald) Hauser of Apple Valley; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband Merle, who passed away in 2012; her parents; brothers George Smith, Leon Smith, Fay Smith, Kurtzy Smith, Harold Smith, Desmond Smith, John Smith, D.B. Smith and Glenn Smith; and sisters Alice Brooks, Lily Rose Gordon, Iola Ronnfeldt, and Annabelle Smith.
